Now it's safe to say that Derrick Rose is going to be the MVP of the league this year and there's little to no controversy about it. He's the best player on the team with the best record. He's come up clutch in numerous games besides game 1. He contorts his body into odd shapes as he drives to the basket.
Rose is the guy in the city of Chicago right now. Not since maybe Jordan has a player owned this city quite like he has now, but with all that being said, he doesn't have that killer nickname that "Air" Michael "MJ" Jordan "his airness" had.
Sure, he has "D-Rose" but that's so generic and over-used. Moniker nicknames are so lame :C-Webb, K-Love, CP3 (well, that one I like), GP, and I'm sure there are tons and tons more. Well, I want to change that with a nickname challenge. Here's what I have thus far:
1) The Doctor (Dr.) - It's kind of a play on his initials but you don't just call him "Dee Arr". Think of the sports announcers saying "There goes the Doctor, carving up the Pacers' defense" or "The doctor should just put Granger out of his misery and euthanize him." High potential!
2) The Dagger - Sleek. Deadly. Small. Surprising. Comes out of nowhere.
4) Houdini – Simply because I have no clue how he drives to the lane and comes out of the masses as he does; and he does it with the basket and the foul.
What do you think? I personally like #1 because I can see the name sticking for years to come, but I'm fine with "the dagger" as well.
My vote is for 'The Professor'. Because he can 'school' anyone in basketball skills, AND because he is functionally retarded!
ReplyDeleteI thought about that too, but "The Professor" is already used. Remember when ESPN recorded the And1 Mix Tapes tour and the only white guy on the team was called The Professor.
